Eva Nyiri

Welcome

When a friend of mine, was asking me about a movie I had seen, I quickly summed it up for him. A while later, after he also had seen it, he let me know that in fact, the queen didn’t die at the end! I replied “Hmm, well maybe but the robots where incredible!”
Basically this is how I view the world. For some people it’s the creative dialect or story that stands out, while for me it’s everything else that catches my attention. More...

About Me

I never followed any “trends”, or felt pressure to make decisions that would fulfill others standards. However I am stimulated and inspired by these “trends”, I just never felt the need to follow them...

If I had to talk extensively, with frilly words about why exactly I chose clothing, I wouldn’t be able to give an answer. It was always something that made sense and felt natural to me. Nothing else even crossed my mind. I feel as though the clothes speak, they tell others about me and the world that surrounds me.

TRANSFORMERS - DIPLOMA

My thesis work is/was based on four similar black coats. The main objective was to challenge the conception of women’s coats. How could one take the same coat and make it look four different ways, so that it would change in characteristics as well? I was able to obtain this by pushing the boundaries of certain accents, which lead to four different looks. The areas which I emphasised and varied where the neck, shoulders, bust and hips. By utilising strong accentuations to these areas, I was able to achieve my goal.In addition, I found that by removing these variable accentuations the results were even more outstanding.
Besides the visual statement of the garments, I of course was focused on function as well. The accentuations were placed on the various parts of the body, which need more protection. This is what lead me to utilise the concept of armour, as I felt the functions of coats and armour shared the anology of protection.
While designing I drew inspiration from the anchient body armour of the samurai and the look of our modern day robots, The Transformers. I compounded to two looks so that the main characteristics of armour would be featured on the coats, and keep their robust effect at the same time.

The goal was to create a constructive frame. While designing and creating the garnments, I felt it was important that the original concept should be identifiable, the functionality of the samurai and transformers body armour. Thus, these four detachable and variable parts result in the fifth siluette, which is the base of the entire concept.
Utilised textiles: black wool, black wrinkled and polished leather-effect textile.

RAINCOATS

Raincoat 1.
This coat was made during my semester at The London College of Fashion, for Tesco.
During the design process I made sure the coat would be; affordable, easy to produce and above all, it should be flattering for basically any shape of woman. Besides these I felt it was important that it should function not only as a raincoat; I made sure the hood was removeable and that the textile was comfortable to the touch. For this reason I used a waterproof treated textile, that made the coat wearable on non-rainy days as well.

Raincoat 2.
Coat resembling 19th century Napoleon.
